NEW CINEMA – NEW FORMS – NEW PERSPECTIVES
The 15th Athens International Digital Film Festival – AIDFF returns to Athens from 3 to 9 December 2026, continuing a creative journey of fifteen years dedicated to new cinema, independent filmmaking, and new forms of audiovisual expression.
AIDFF approaches cinema not only as a form of storytelling, but also as a field of exploration, experimentation, and reflection. It embraces a cinema that seeks to look at the human being, time, memory, reality, and existence itself through a more ontological approach to the cinematic image.
A Festival – A Chain of Screenings Across Athens
The 15th edition of AIDFF will take place across 7 different venues in Athens, creating a distinctive chain of film screenings and events connecting different parts of the city.
The festival thus expands beyond a single venue into a wider urban network, creating multiple meeting points between films, filmmakers, and audiences.
The seven venues will function as different cinematic stations within a unified festival journey, transforming Athens into a living map of contemporary cinematic creation.
A Festival for New Cinema
At the heart of AIDFF is the search for new cinema — a cinema that is not confined by established forms and conventional narrative structures.
Fiction, documentary, animation, experimental and hybrid films, video art, and new forms of cinematic expression come together in a programme that seeks different ways of narrating and capturing the human experience.
The digital medium is not merely a technical tool. It opens up new possibilities for cinematic language and allows filmmakers to explore different relationships between image, sound, time, and reality.
From Image to Existence
AIDFF seeks to provide a space for works that are concerned not only with what we see, but also with what it means to see.
The cinematic image can become a means of exploring human existence, memory, identity, time, loss, our relationship with reality, and the ways in which we perceive the world.
Through this ontological approach, cinema moves beyond the simple representation of reality and becomes a space for exploration, reflection, and inner dialogue.
Hundreds of Submissions from 50 Countries
The submission process for the 15th AIDFF has been completed with a particularly strong international response.
Hundreds of submissions from 50 countries were received for this year's festival, reaffirming the international character and growing presence of AIDFF.
The pre-selection committees have already begun watching and evaluating the submitted films.
The Official Selection of the 15th AIDFF will be announced on 15 November 2026.
15 Years of Exploration and Creation
The 15th edition marks an important milestone in the journey of the Athens International Digital Film Festival.
For fifteen years, AIDFF has created a meeting place for independent filmmakers from Greece and around the world, providing a platform for works that explore new cinematic languages and new ways of communicating with audiences.
The 15th edition continues this journey, with its focus on new cinema, emerging technologies, and, above all, the human being and the existential questions that remain timeless.
Because cinema is not only the image we see.
It is also the way we see the world.
